Fiction:

a : something invented by the imagination or feigned; specifically : an invented story b : fictitious literature (as novels or short stories) c : a work of fiction; especially : novel

Non-Fiction:

 : literature or cinema that is not fictional 

 

 

Simple enough? Good.These are the two main categories of "genre". These two can, of course, be demolished into thousands of sub categories. Like this;

 

Fiction:

Sci-Fi

Romance

Thriller

Fantasy

Mystery

Action

Ect.

 

 

Non Fiction:

Sports

Gardening

History

Technology

Animals

Art

Science

Ect.

 

Just by looking at their differing sub categories you can see how different these two genre's are. It's very important not to confuse the two. Admittedly, I used to confuse them a great deal. But that was a long time ago. Anyway, this post is short for a reason, just to give you something to mull over. Go forth and find two examples of each Fiction and Non-Fiction. Which one do you indulge in more?
